By Stuart Tallack: Is the attached photo too easy to identify? It is more than enough for anyone who has sat in the driving seat of one. Look at the instrument on the left of the photograph. It is the distinctive Lancia petrol gauge. When you press a small button on the dash, lights on the gauge indicate the level of the petrol. Most of the gauges no longer work because of the multiplicity of little wires and the passage of the years. My brother's face loomed up as a reflection when I had a camera in my hand to picture something else. The pressed tin dashboard is elegantly simple in concept like the rest of the car, though sometimes bafflingly complex in execution also like the rest of the car, a 1937 Lancia Aprilia.
