Holiday time is upon us and the main roads are filling up with cars. How can you escape the traffic jams? This lady in C 1920 San Francisco scrambled into her Studebaker and drove to her local airfield where the pilot of the biplane awaits his passenger with a smile. The aircraft is a Curtiss Jenny, popular amongst barnstormers and famous for being the plane with two plucky souls appearing to play tennis on the top wing. The player on the starboard wing is Gladys Ingle, the only female member of Hollywood's 13 Black Cats aerial stunt troop whose founder, Bon McDougall made his car racing debut with a Miller Special in the 1926 Indianapolis. Gladys was famous for changing planes mid-air with no parachute and this video shows her doing it! Could it be Gladys standing in the Studebaker I wonder ...?
