Horsley car and disc valve engine

Jon Horsley writes:
"Further to articles previously shown on prewarcar 20/04/2010 Aries 1907, 15/05/2010 How to maintain an Aries and 19/01/2014 Horsley wants to know about Horsley.

The story so far, Thomas Horsley and sons, gunsmiths of York, build and patent an experimental disc valve engine on a 4100cc 4 cylinder aero engine and fit it to a 1910 rothwell 20 hp chassis. The car is then raced at Saltburn Sands in July 1913 in event E and L against Percey Lambert in the 25hp Talbot (the first car to cover 100 miles in an hour at Brooklands the same year) A J Hancock in a 30-98 vauxhall, G D Pearce-Jones in a 25 Vauxhall, S T Leas 25 Talbot driven by Hands and J Higginson in a 30 Vauxhall, coming respectably 3rd and 4th in such distinguished company.

From there, the Horsley motor car visits the 1924 motor show at Earls court, then things are a bit vague until 1974, when the car is owned by David Johnson, the engine is removed from the chassis and fitted to the 1907 Aries in the previous PreWarCar article. The car has now been tracked down and lives in Belgium. On trying to track a Rothwell 20hp chassis to start a build with is also not easy. There appears to be only one car left, this lives in Oldham and is owned by the great grand daughter of Mr Rothwell the owner of the company, so unless blueprints come to light, a trip to Oldham to measure and draw chassis dimensions to start the build. Any information leading to the make of the aero engine (102x127 mm engine giving 42bhp at 1400 revs) used as a base for the Horsley  25 hp water cooled disc valve engine and plans for a Rothwell 20 hp model B chassis would help get this project underway.

editor: well enough to try and to track down! We're curious who will do a kick off in this Horsley matter...
