COYS auction house are holding their next auction on saturday 26th at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany. When we asked each other which car we would most like to take home, one said Bugatti, one said BMW and one said Delage. The Bugatti is a 1925 Type 30 with a story to tell. At the end of the war the owner built a crate onto the rear of the chassis in order to carry stones. A young mechanic did his best to maintain and repair the car as best he could with the meagre resources available then. Eventually in 1953 the trusty workhorse cried 'Enough!' and so spent the next 30 years in a garden shed. You will enjoy the happy ending in the car's description.
The BMW is a 327 Cabriolet built in 1938 and painted a handsome dark green over black. This is a true driver's car and the original gearbox is under the owner's bench because he fitted a Volvo 5-speed box to help enjoy 25 years motoring as far south as Sicily and as far north as Norway. Other improvements contribute to this car's ability to ensure the next owner will enjoy today's roads in proper style.
The 1938 Mercedes-Benz Cabriolet offered is a 320 n model A in red with luxurious tan leather interior. The body style was constructed with an eye on the legendary 540K , the only car more expensive than the 320 in the '38 Mercedes catalogue. We are told this car is one of six known of the ten examples originally made which gives it that rare status. On the other side of the Atlantic a Cabriolet could be bought in 1935 with an eight cylinder engine, hydraulic brakes and a radiator saying Packard. Popular with women for its easy handling via synchromesh gearbox and relatively light steering.
