Last week your editor said of The Antique Automobile Club of America’s Hershey swap meet, the world's largest old car and parts supermarket: "If you want a Model T, a cheap Model T, you're here at the right spot." Well, a cheap Model T this is not, but it's certainly in the right spot. Offered by St. Louis dealer Mark Hyman, it's a Faultless speedster, one of many varieties offered to make an ordinary Model T look like an intercontinental missile. The product of the Faultless Body Corp. of Delphi, Indiana, it is one of dozens of similar kits with names like Mercury, Greyhound or Cyclone. Unlike many, the Faultless disguised the Model T radiator with a domed shroud that was most un-Fordlike. Priced at a hefty $48,500, it’s the real thing, unlike many T speedsters extant today whose bodies were recently built from scratch. Mostly complete, it still needs plenty of work to be driveable, much less beautiful. Did anyone take it home? |
