The first motorcars were the hi-tec toys of the rich and famous. And one would expect the first royalty to buy an automobile to be from the "Old World". Not so. The first sovereign to buy an automobile was Sultan Moualy Hassan I of Morocco. A Daimler, the very first one to be sold. A similar car is on display at the Mercedes Benz Museum in Stuttgart. If the original car is still in Morocco (and drivable) then it would be welcome at the Peaks of the Atlas which will be held 9-23 November. The ca 250 km a day would be just feasible for this 2 CP (camel power), 2 cylinder, 762 cc monster. And perhaps - one never knows - one camel driver might help us make an historical find in the “Kasbah”.
