About Quiz #412 - Janemian.

The picture in last week's quiz shows the insides of a 1920 Janemaine which has a unique layout and is shown on this page from Motor Age October 1920. Other sources quote a flat twin engine fitted to the early cars with disc wheels which changed later to a V Twin engine and wire wheels. This early disc wheel car has a V Twin of approximately 40° whereas this later wire wheel car has a V Twin of about 100°. The engine, radiator, transmission all sit in a yoke frame which pivots at the front on the wooden chassis such that the power plant and rear axle form a rigid unit through which torque and driving forces are transmitted. Onnig Aram Janemian came from Armenia to live in Paris and took out patents on his ideas. See HERE.

This picture shows a 1924 Janemaine voiturette and here's a close up of a  Janemaine saloon at the 1919 Paris Salon. We thank all readers who wrote in with answers - eight of them were correct - and since ROD RENFREW was the only one who mentioned the early flat twin and also told us about the patents, we declare him the winner. Congratulations Rod, and to claim your PreWarCar T-shirt,  just send us your size and address. Or collect it from Retromobile in Paris - we'll be there.
