COYS are holding an auction of British & Continental Sports & Touring Motor Cars on Saturday 9 April at Techno Classica in Essen and there are some juicy cars for the lovers of Italian style. We like both the 1937 Fiat 1500 6c Barchetta cars for their great style and charm - and of course performance. The white painted example has been re-bodied in aluminium with Zagato style coachwork and retains its pressed steel wheels. However, beneath the bonnet lurks a supercharger and coupled with its bucket seats and engine turned dash, somehow giving this car has the appeal of a well-made one-off special ready to mix it with the best in the Mille Miglia. The red-painted car has chrome wire wheels, tan leather interior , triple Webers and produces 'a wonderful sound'. It would be fun to compare the two on the road! Lancia fans are in for a treat with this exquisite silver 1939 Aprilia Lusso pillarless saloon, and this 1939 Aprilia in blue and a wonderful 1934 Augusta which was the first production car with a true monocoque body/chassis construction and the first Lancia to be produced on an assembly line, alongside tools and equipment specific to that model. We can see ourselves enjoying every one of these Italian beauties - can you? Text Robin Batchelor, pictures courtesy COYS. |
