Zero breakdowns at Oily Rag Run

Waving the Oily Rag

While fully restored cars have their place – and sometimes a full restoration is the only way to keep a car on the road – we have a real love for original, unrestored and, yes, slightly scruffy prewar cars.

Our friends at The Automobile magazine take their enthusiasm for 'Oily Rag' motoring to another level, however. As well as running a large fleet of unrestored cars themselves, every year they tempt a varied selection of cherished (but not shiny) cars out of the woodwork for a relaxed road tour on their Oily Rag Run.

This year, the motley convoy headed to North Yorkshire, taking in the private collection of Daniel and Toby Ward and suffering an incredible zero breakdowns en route. For more pictures of this unique event celebrating the scruffier side of prewar motoring, visit their website or, better still, buy a copy of the magazine.
