The forgotten Italian sports car

Although today primarily remembered for building trucks as well as commercial coachwork on Fiat chassis, Turin's Officine Mechanica, or OM, were also responsible for some of the finest sports cars of the Vintage era. Their first forays into motor car manufacture came after buying out the ailing Zust marque in 1918. In 10 short years they were producing the 665 SSMM, a rakish supercharged sports car which saw success in the Mille Miglia.

Alessandro Silva has just published a superb book on the marque, an extract from which has been featured in the latest issue of The Automobile, which is out now.
