Lancias cross the Largest Continent
Iain Simpson reports:
"I read with interest your Pre War feature about the gathering of Lancia Lambda's in the North West of Italy at the Fobello Rally in September of this year. Many Lancia's from around the world gathered and celebrated 95 years since the test run of the Prototipo of the Lambda in 1921 by Vincenzo Lancia.
I was booked to attend in my 8th series Lambda with my wife and two girls but we were forced to withdraw at the last minute due to an unresolved lack of oil pressure after a recent engine overhaul. Many of my Aussie friends made it including Andrew Cox and his wife Anne.
As a consolation prize I offered to the girls a trip to Perth Western Australia from the small town of Riddells Creek Victoria. The West Australian Fiat Lancia Club were to celebrate it's 35th Anniversay. Our exitement grew quickly. A trip of some 3600 kms in an 88 year Lambda was planned but to be sensible we decided to travel with friends so Peter and Diana Renou in their 'post war' Lancia Appia 3rd Series agreed to travel together with us. 6 full days of driving, quite often with no mobile telephone coverage for 100's of km's at a time saw us arrive safely in Perth.  A further 1300km's on tour with the West Australian group meant that 5,000km's in total in two weeks. Great times in an old car I can recomend to any of your readers. "
