Thank you very much for all the New Year wishes. Judging from your comments you had as much fun solving the quiz, as we had putting it together. It wasn’t too difficult, as almost all of the responses were correct. We asked for only the names of the marques that were named after an historical figure, but many also gave us the model names. For those few with incorrect answers this is what you should have found:

On day 1 we showed you a picture of Mercédès Jellinek, daughter of Emil Jellinek, who named his cars after her. On day 2 we presented you another daughter of a famous man. Her name was Lidia Bugatti. Her brother Jean designed this beautiful Typ 40 ‘Lidia’ for her. The explorer on day 3 was of course Antoine de la Mothe, sieur de Cadillac. And it was Henry M. Leland who named his first automobile after him. The Belgian king from day 4 who added his name to an automobile was King Albert I of Belgium. The full name of the make was the 1927 Excelsior Albert I cabriolet. It sported a 5.3 ltr. 6-cylinder engine, had 110 pk and a body by Snutsel of Brussels. The French engineer from day 5 was Adolphe Kégresse, who invented the half-tracks, that were also used on the famous Citroën Kégresse. On day 6 most US citizens wouldn’t have had any trouble recognizing the patriot from the American Revolution. He was Paul Revere, but strangely enough the make named after him was named ReVere with a capital V.

Okay, now for the winners… we threw all your answers in the proverbial hat and took them out one by one until we had six winners. They are: Andre van de Loo; Kare Holmseth; Chris Mooney; Jeremy Leasor; Ian Sly and Quinten Buijs.

Congratulations to all! Please send your address (and shirt size!) to info (at) prewarcar.com to claim your PreWarCar T-shirt.
