Clemens Heddier from Germany reports about a most interesting motorcar: "I found this car a few weeks ago in the centre of France. It is a very early Voiturette Bertrand Type C (Chassis# 54) with a De Dion Bouton single cylinder engine #993. It seems to be a 3.5 or 4.5 HP engine. The car is belt-driven with 2 forward and no rear gear. 3 Bertrand light cars participated at the 1901 Grand Prix from Paris to Berlin. There is very little information about this company available. They all say that the company Voiturette Bertrand et Cie. manufactured cars from 1901 to 1902 in Paris, Avenue Malakoff. During my historical research I found a 1900 patent registration from Voiturette Bertrand. The company address at this date was „198 Boulevard Pereire“. If you compare this with the brass plate at my car you will find the same address. Therefore this car could change the history books about early French cars. 'Bertrand' could be from 1900 or older. Can anybody bring light in the darkness about the history of my car and the company Voiture Bertrand in general. All information, especially old photos are welcome. You can post a comment or send your information through my information request." |
