A few weeks back we received photos of a mystery cabriolet coachwork (see link). Many things indicated a swiss coachbuilder, Langenthal and Graber were mentioned. However the body is from an even more rare coachbuilder: W.Blaser from Burgdorf (also showing a similar body on 1935 Ford V8 basis). This little company started making bodies for Pic-Pic and Saurer, and in the 1930s they were succesful with many cars on American chassis. By those days, the company was specialising in GM trucks, but also made interesting cabriolet bodies on a simple Ford Model A chassis. In 1934 W.Blaser received an uncommon order from a local butcher: a luxury cabriolet capable of carrying five passengers which would be suitable for his butcher jobs, too. The result was this really rare combination "cabrio-pick-up" that luckily has survived until this day. We are not 100% sure if the car from the old photos is the very same body as owned by Philip A., but it looks very similar. Further than that, it would be easy to get the original chassis, a 1934 Chevrolet 6 cylinder. (research & text Francisco Carrion) |
