by Fons Alkemade: Some weeks ago I visited the Mahymobiles automotive museum in Leuze, Belgium. I have been in the museum regularly for the last seven years and every time I come there Ivan Mahy and his team surprise me with another project they have finished or are busy with. Only this year one of Ivan's biggest wishes has become reality: a restoration workshop in the museum. The museum is housed in a huge former textile factory and this has given Ivan the opportunity to have one of the annexes transformed into a workshop plus an impressive parts depot on the first floor. The workshop is not open to the public but this should not restrain you from a trip to Leuze (between Lille and Brussels). One good reason to go there right now is a remarkable car which is new in the collection (and it is not sure whether it will stay for long). It is a luxurious Renault of 1908 with a Coupé de Ville body which was only taken from its garage last year. After 95 years! So it is completely original and still wears its Belgian licence plate of the time (11830 in large white figures). (photo below: the new workshop)
