110 Years ago H. Nelson Jackson and Sewall K. Crocker were the first to drive coast-to-coast across America in their 1903 20 hp Winton. Their journey took about sixty days. Now enter Rod Wade. He's about to do the trip all over again, although he and his trusty 1930 Model A, nicknamed Tudor Rose, aim to do it in sixty hours! No mean feat, but both Rod and Tudor Rose are no strangers to an adventure as together they have already completed the Peking to Paris Rally. The start of this non-stop Ocean-to-Ocean drive begins on Columbus Day (14th October) by filling a bottle with water from the Atlantic Ocean, just off Staten Island. The water will then be poured into the Pacific Ocean when the team arrives at Venice Beach, Los Angeles. That's when the clock will stop and a new world record will be set. Their planned route will take them along the Lincoln Highway; parts of Jackson and Cocker's original crossing, as well as down sections of historic Route 66. With his drive Rod hopes to raise money for the American Kidney Fund. You can follow his progress on Vintage Adventurer. We wish Rod much speed!
