The hints for this quiz were supposed to lead you to Germany, the land of the Herkomer and the subsequent Prince Henry trials. The latter trials or "Prinz Heinrich-Fahrten" as they were officially named, were held from 1908 to 1912. The last of the original trials was held in 1910, after this year only normal touring cars were allowed to participate. The 1910 trial was won by the Porsche designed Austrian Daimler, driven by himself (which I suppose is common knowledge). Opel, the winner of 1909, had designed for 1910 a car with a unique appearance. It had of course the flush-sided body, as required by the rules, but it had also wire wheels, very light mudguards and a radiator shape, which would become known as a "Kathedralkühler". Two fast 100hp models were driven by Herbert Ephraim and Fritz Opel, Ephraim ending on 4th place after the three Austrian Daimlers. Other similar Opels were participating, apparently with smaller engines. Our mystery photo is the same Prince Henry model, however the mudguards and wheels have been transformed to conventional style. Now there are two options: either this car was an original Prince Henry participant transformed after the trial, or it belongs to a small special 70hp Prince Henry series Opel produced after the trial. So mysteries can be solved, evocating just new mysteries!
