Bush Mechanics

This is roadside repair pre-war style!
Allistair Smith reports: "A little while ago I was chauffeuring my parents in their 1926 Vauxhall on a rally here in Queensland, Australia; when I noticed that the 1928 Essex in front was leaving a trail of liquid. It soon pulled over and we did to. We found that a Welch plug had come out of the engine (pic 1 and 2). Some miles from home and without a tow car or trailer nearby, my father wasn’t stressed and went and found a hacksaw blade. He then proceeded to cut a branch off a tree near the road side and fashioned a make shift bung (pic 3). This was then fitted to the engine with a tap of a hammer (pic 4 and 5). We were able to get water from a nearby farm house to fill the radiator, and the Essex was then driven home!"

Do you have photos of similar recent (!) creative repairs. We love to hear from you
