As an every day reader of your pages I thought I would like to share this with you and your readers.
The photos were taken in 1936 and the site is a creek-side picnic spot at the foot of the Toowoomba Range, Queensland, Australia. As I was only 4 years old at the time I don't remember any details but included in the Photo are my mother, siblings and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. That is me near the rear wheel of the Chev.
The vehicle is, of course a 1929 Chevrolet ex-tourer that had had the typical Aussie ute treatment to make it more useful for farm work.
I would appear that the Chev's owner had great faith in the ute's brakes to be parked on a slope like that with so many happy picnicers behind it. Maybe there was a good chock as well.
We certainly didn't all travel in the Chev, but my parent's car, a 1925 Mystery Overland, was left at the top of the bank - photo 2- in deference to its 2-wheel brakes.
