Andy Watt witnessed yesterday a very special event at Beaulieu Motor Musuem when the first public firing of Sir Malcolm Campbell's Bluebird for 50 years went ahead. It needed two men to handcrank(!) the 18.3 V12 Manitou Arab aero engine, check this a video link and a few photos. Best record by Campbell was 150,7 MPH at the Pendine Sands in 1925. The last one is Don Wales grandson of Sir Malcolm. Now we can imagine you like to experience this with your own eyes. The Sunbeam will be on display at Retromobile and if we're informed correctly the car will be started next Wednesday around noon. |
