Sorry, no Atalanta, no Alvis. It is the 1933 Moveo touring car, by Bert Houlding of Preston. (1929-1933). It looks like this was not too hard ! No less than five competitors came in with the correct make and more or less complete extra information: Alan Spencer, Hubert Kranz, Roger Harrison, Gerry Barrett, Richard Green, R. Mawer and jury members Fried Stol plus Stuart Penketh.
As soon as you have the name al kinds of information is readily available on the web or in books. Yet always keep in mind that our quiz is about the question 'What is it?' referring to the photo. Most competitors came up with information regarding the Make and not as much regarding the car depicted. Only two competitors referred to the bodywork seen. Hubert Kranz with "continental"coupe by Jensen. And Carrick Watson with close couples sports coupe; yet as Carrick is initiator of the quiz, he has to drop off. So in few words: Congratulations Hubert Kranz!
"Bert Houlding's Grandson wrote: Bert Houlding Sr was my grandfather, and my father was his son, Bert Houlding Jr.
My father was a writer for 'Autocar' on fuel injection matters and more, and also wrote for the 'Manchester Guardian' (as it was then) under the title 'Tunesmith'.
I don't think that either the Toreador or Matador bikes were branded 'Moveo'. This was reserved for two cars which Granddad and his brother Norman built - just as they had jointly built the motorbikes. These bikes and the cars were 'collations' and none the worse for it:
Both brothers were enthusiastic - and successful racers: they were particularly successful on sand races (Morecambe) but they also competed on the Isle of Man. (special thanks to Carrick Watson who came up with the photo and suggested this quiz)
check one Moveo chassis and Meadows engine mounted here. And the history of the 'three' Moveos known, probably published several decades back.
